Privacy policy — Pnyx

Last updated: July 15, 2026

Pnyx has no server and collects no personal data — with one visible and voluntary exception: the world leaderboard (a nickname and a word count), detailed below. The developer never receives, stores, or sells anything else about you.

Stays on your device

Leaves your device — only at your initiative

These exchanges are device-to-provider, never through a Pnyx server. Use of that data is governed by the policy of the provider you chose. If a cloud provider is unreachable while the network is up (VPN, outage), the app can re-transcribe the dictation on-device (Apple Speech or a local model of your choice) — nothing is sent in that case. If you're offline, the dictation is simply queued and sent to your chosen provider once the network returns.

World leaderboard (optional)

The leaderboard compares the total number of dictated words across Pnyx users. If you use it:

iCloud

If sync is on, your data syncs through a file in your private iCloud Drive; your API keys travel separately, encrypted. Everything stays in your iCloud account; the developer has no access to it.

Microphone

Used only during a dictation you start, to capture the speech to transcribe. No recording is kept after transcription.

No tracking

Pnyx performs no advertising tracking, uses no analytics SDK, and shares nothing with data brokers.

Children

Pnyx is not specifically directed to children.
